The press talks about Brazilian Sensation Acai. Recipes... |
Brazilian Sensation has nine years experience of working with acai
– more than any other U.K. based company. In that time we have learnt
that to provide you with excellent quality naturally organic acai, this
is achievable only by going to the finest growing region in Brazil regularly and selecting the acai
ourselves – this we do, thus ensuring total control over the quality of
our product. Once we have selected the berries, they are then processed
into frozen pulp before being freeze dried. This is done by putting the
frozen acai into a vacuum chamber and at very low freezing temperatures
the water is drawn off by evaporating the ice - this just leaves pure
acai solids with all its nutrients
preserved which we then pack into special alufoil clip seal pouches of
100g to maintain it in optimum condition.
We sell freeze dried Açaí for retail use in alufoil pouches of 100g and 500g and large size packaging for industry. There is no charge for delivery within the U.K. Delivery to the rest of Europe and the U.S.A incurs a small additional charge.

Very rich in antioxidants helping to combat premature aging with up to 30 times the anthocyanin levels found in red wine and 3 times that of blueberry. Essential fatty acids omegas 6 and 9 and phytosterols which help the cardiovascular system reduce “bad” cholesterol aiding blood pressure levels. Acai is a nutritious energiser with a very low natural sugar content but with high levels of dietary fibre, calcium, vitamin E, potassium and phosphorous. In laboratory tests carried out at Florida University Scientists discovered that leukemia cells died in testing with Acai – this gives the hope that it could aid cancer sufferers. How does it affect the rain forest? It provides an alternative industry to the tree clearing activities of logging and forestry in the Amazon therefore it is beneficial to the environment. How is it harvested? The old fashioned way! Men climb up the palm trees with machete in hand and cut the “branches”. Back on the ground the berries are then stripped and put into baskets to await transportation by boat or lorry to the factories for processing. Is there a big difference in the quality of acai products that are sold in the U.K.? Absolutely! Be careful of some companies claims – the best advice is to look for those that have been working with Acai over a longer period of time. Taste and compare all the products for yourself – you make the decision!
Do Brazilian Sensation carry out testing of their product? Yes we do – Firstly in the U.K. a microbiological analysis and nutritional information profile are carried out – for further testing of Antioxidants – (O.R.A.C. Anthocyanins and Phenolic levels), we send samples to the United States. How should good quality freeze dried acai look and taste? Almost black, a little course in texture leaving a mild, natural earthy taste on the palate that turns slightly sticky. It should not taste bitter - that is a sign of poor quality. Is Brazilian Sensation freeze dried Acai organic? It is naturally organic (not certified) wild grown without the use of pesticides, 100% natural and does not contain citric acid nor additives What is the difference between freeze dried acai and frozen pulp? Frozen pulp is normally between 10 -14% acai solids; the rest is added water. Freeze dried acai has this water taken out so you are left with just the acai solids - the good thing is that all the beneficial nutrients are maintained!
As it is a fruit, there are no hard and fast rules on this (see our recipe guides for ideas). Where does the best quality acai come from? We would love to share that secret with you, but competition being what it is ...! How do Brazilians consume it? In the growing region, mainly as a food - a popular way is mixing the acai with Manioc flour. In other parts of Brazil, it is consumed as a Juice, or as a thick mass with fruit and granola known as “Acai na tigela” – (see our uses section for more ideas) |
